what is art as meditation?

about

Every human being is born with spontaneous and natural creativity. It’s easy to observe, before children enter schooling age they all love to paint, build and create with a passion.
In adulthood there is very few of us, who still do. Most of us have resigned, told ourselves or let others tell us that we lack the skill, the time or interest.

Art as Meditation workshops are laboratories where we reconnect with our natural creativity through group processes, individual work and meditation techniques. They are a safe playroom designed to give us the experience of living as a creative being.

We use exercises and techniques from many different fields ranging from contemporary art education, improvisational theatre, meditative therapies and techniques from Zen and ancient Tantric practices.

The workshops are not designed to make us “produce” art, even though that often happens in the process. But to learn for ourselves what creativity is, how it feels and manifests in the body and our senses. And how we invite it, as a quality, not only onto a paper or canvas, but into every aspect of our life.

about me

While studying contemporary arts and education, early on I began to spend all my free time in spiritual communities and meditation centers. I became a disciple of the contemporary Mystic Osho, joined Vipassana Retreats, 5Rhythms, Primal Therapy groups and many others.
For almost 10 years I was living in these two very different worlds, between academia and self inquiry. At that time producing art was an often painful process and the business of exhibiting, networking and selling felt more and more in conflict with the insights I gathered in therapy and meditation.

When I began doing some playful painting exercises around the centers I visited - something clicked. I could take the expansion, the insights and the theoretical foundations that the contemporary art scene has taught me. But I was able to add the innocence, sincerity and the depth that I only found in meditation.

I was able to create a space of playfulness healing and connection through art, I space that I have been looking for all my life for myself.

Art as Meditation - Open one-on-one Session
When working around life issues our own unconscious often already carries deep insights and solutions hidden inside our own being. But since they come from a part of us that is not verbal, it can be hard to gain access to them.
We can give voice to these parts of ourselves by expressing them through art: In colors, forms, shapes and images. In a therapeutic art session we practice to articulate, read and respond to our creation allowing it to open the hidden doors into our own intuitive wisdom.
